The judges of Miss Universe Bangladesh competition, singer and actor Tahsan Khan and beauty expert Kaniz Almas Khan, unveiled the crown in the presence of the top 10 contestants of the competition
The crown of Miss Universe Bangladesh was unveiled on Tuesday at 11am, in a gala event held in Amisheé Fine Jewelry store, located in Gulshan, Dhaka. The judges of Miss Universe Bangladesh competition, singer and actor Tahsan Khan and beauty expert Kaniz Almas Khan, unveiled the crown in the presence of the top 10 contestants of the competition
Chairperson of Bangladesh Heritage Craft Foundation Nehreen Rahman Tootli, Amisheé’s Head of Business Rokeya Sultana, Chairman of Miss Universe Bangladesh Rizwan Bin Farouq, and many others were also present at the unveiling event.
In the unveiling ceremony Tahsan said: “I am very excited to be a part of the first edition of Miss Universe Bangladesh. I have been involved in beauty pageants for the last 12 years, and I am very pleased to say that this is the best top 10 contestants I have seen till date. I wish them the best.”
Kaniz Almas Khan, who is the CEO and managing director of beauty salon Persona, said in her speech: “Persona is very pleased to be the makeup partner for the first Miss Universe Bangladesh. I am looking forward to seeing the person who will be crowned in the grand finale.”
In response to whether we need more beauty pageants in Bangladesh, Kaniz Almas told the Dhaka Tribune Showtime: “We definitely need more initiatives such as this one, as we want Bangladeshi girls to achieve something really big- such as the main crown of competitions such as Miss World and Miss Universe. We in Bangladesh are just as updated as the rest of the world. These events and pageants prove in their small way, that our girls are ready to take on the world.
“When a Bangladeshi girl represents her country in a world stage, or an international event, the rest of the girls in the country get inspiration from that. They get the courage to think ‘I, too, can achieve this,’” Kaniz added.
Nehreen Rahman Tootli told Showtime: “In pageants such as this one, the confidence of the contestants gets a very big boost. During the grooming process, they are trained on public speaking, critical thinking, and how to present oneself on stage. Because only ten are selected from thousands of applications, the extreme competition brings the best out of the top contestants. The best thing that I have observed about them is that they are all equally good at English and Bangla, which is a must for any ambassador of the country.”
The grand finale of the first Miss Universe Bangladesh competition will be held on October 23, and the winner will be crowned by Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen, who herself won the title of Miss Universe in 1994.
